My Start

After sitting in my office for an entire pandemic stricken year I was interested in a new venture. I passed my obligatory Real Estate licensing test on the first attempt in late December 2020. Unfortunately, while there are tons of books about Real Estate that are available out there, and some are quite fantastic, there really isn’t anything out there for a brand new agent fresh out of the testing facility. New Agents are pretty much just left to figure it out on their own. Which is great and terrifying at the same time. Probably why so many of us fail.

So I needed to find a broker to hang my license. How do I do that? Just call around and hope one answers the phone…? That didn’t seem like a recipe for success so tried the only approach that I could think of. LInkedIn. And it worked. I met up with a Sales Manager for a relatively well known local brokerage who most Roanoker’s would recognize on name alone. It started out so well, I had a client within the first few weeks of joining. Everything was great….except, I had no idea what I was actually doing.

I got fired by my first ever client! And rightfully so, I couldn’t put together a legitimate offer for a highly competitive offer situation before the offer deadline. After that dumpster fire, I milled about at that brokerage for a while just trying to find traction and to manufacture the time required to be a viable real estate agent and a husband, and a father, and a dog owner, and a friend, plus I was still working my 8-5.
